FAFSA Letter to the Parents/Students of the Class of 2025 at RHS.
January 9, 2025
Dear Students/Parent(s) of the Class of 2025:
It is an IL state graduation requirement that each student fill out the FAFSA, which allows students to qualify for grants and/or student loans for post-high school education. You can opt out of this requirement by following these instructions (FAFSA Opt-Out Instructions).
For those who wish to receive assistance in filling out the FAFSA, we are holding a FAFSA Completion Night on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in the RHS Commons at 6pm, in which students and parents can complete the FAFSA while financial aid advisors are available to answer any questions. For this meeting, you will need to bring the following:
Social Security Numbers for student and parent
Alien Registration Number, if the student is not a U.S. citizen
2023 federal tax returns, W-2’s, and other records of income
Banking statements and records of investments (if applicable)
Records of untaxed income
An FSA ID to sign electronically.
To avoid processing delays, both students and parents should create this beforehand at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch at least one week prior to completing the FAFSA.
List of colleges the student would like to attend
School-issued laptop
Notes:
Parental information is required unless the student is at least 24 years of age or meets the criteria for filing as an independent student as described on the FAFSA. Refer to www.FAFSA.gov
Only parents who do not have a Social Security number can enter 000-00-0000 on the FAFSA.
You (student) must report income and assets for yourself and for your parents.
If you have any questions, or if you would like more information, please contact the guidance office.
Sincerely,
Jen Garrison Kayla Hansen
