Good morning Shells! Today is Monday, April 22nd, 2024.
Please stand for the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Today we are continuing our announcements to commemorate Genocide Awareness Month. Last time we asked about other examples of genocide. Some examples include the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, a country in central Africa, in 1994; the Bosnian genocide that targeted Muslims in southeastern Europe in 1992-1995; the Anfal Campaign that targeted Kurdish people in Iraq in 1986-1989; the targeting of indigenous people in Guatemala in 1981-1983; and the destruction of Native American communities across the United States during and after our country’s expansion. There are many other examples of genocide throughout history. So now that we know genocide is a problem, what do you think are some measures we can take to help prevent genocide or help people experiencing genocide?
Today is Earth Day, which is a time to reflect on our planet's beauty and the importance of conservation. At RHS, let's pledge to protect our environment through small acts like reducing waste, conserving energy and recycling what we can to ensure a healthier future for all.
In the media center Science Club has a table with bird feeders, seeds for the garden, and reusable bags for students to take home in celebration of Earth Day. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday RHS students can bring a t-shirt to the media center during their lunch time and iron on a "Make Every Day Earth Day" patch to their cotton/polyester blend t-shirt.
Seniors, we need your information for the scoreboard at graduation. You will find the Google form in your inbox this morning. The Biology II class is holding a plastic water bottle recycling class competition.
Here's how it works. Each class will have one week to recycle as many plastic water bottles as they can. Sophomores collect dates run April 16th through April 22.
The Juniors will begin their collection on April 23 and run through April 29th. And the Seniors will wrap-up the competition from April 30 to May 6th. Biology II students will count the number of plastic bottles for each grade level. The class with the most bottles, with a minimum of 100 bottles, will be rewarded with an outdoor field day on Thursday, May 9th. Games will include spike ball, football, wiffle ball, kickball and volleyball.
