More than 100 educators in the St. Louis region are being honored with the annual Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards, including seven in local Madison County schools.

The long-standing annual program by the St. Louis-based technology company recognizes instructors throughout the St. Louis area who are selected by their school administration for exceptional dedication to their students and school community.

Local award winners include Sarah Magary-Burns in the Alton School District; Dee Haar in the Bethalto School District; Michael Lawson in the East-Alton Wood River High School District; Amy Ferguson in the Edwardsville School District; Paula Kelso at Lewis and Clark Community College; Suze Gibson in the Roxana School District, and Angela Richter in the Triad School District.

“The work of an educator can have a lasting impact on a student,” said Akberet Boykin Farr, vice president of human resources – corporate functions at Emerson. “When a teacher is committed to fostering their students’ passions for learning and empowering them to become the best versions of themselves, that person deserves the utmost recognition. Thus, we are excited and privileged to recognize over 100 teachers as this year’s Excellence in Teaching Awards honorees. Congratulations to all our honorees on this much-deserved recognition.”
