Believing ALL Students Can Learn...

Roxana Senior High School has a robust academic culture centered in best practice grounded in research.  The RHS faculty and staff are a Professional Learning Community, collaborating to carefully consider the four fundamental questions of the PLC philosophy:

  • What do we want our students to know?

Our Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum Built Upon Essential Standards

  • How do we know if they know if they learned?

Assessment for and of Specific Success Criteria to meet Essential Standards

  • How are we going to respond if they did not learn?

Formative Feedback and Response to Intervention (Tiered Supports)

  • What are we going to do if they did learn and demonstrate mastery?

Honors and Dual Credit Course Offerings, Early Graduation, Second Semester Seniors Partnership with Lewis & Clark Community College

Learning We Can See and Celebrate…

As a community of learners, the RHS faculty and staff implement Visible Learning to facilitate their instruction and foster learning among their students.  This is achieved engaging and equipping our students so they can answer the guiding questions:

  1. Where am I Going (with my learning)?

    1. Learning Intentions are Posted and Unpacked

  2. How am I Going (with my learning)?

    1. Specific Success Criteria Clarify Intended Learning

  3. What’s Next?

    1. …if I need support.

    2. …if I’m ready to move on…

Student Life and Campus Culture

Student Life at RHS fosters a positive school culture and climate conducive to learning and having fun.
The culture and climate of RHS is supported by our four fundamental pillars of Respect, Dignity, Forgiveness and Understanding.  At RHS, students strive to become digital citizens and to respect the diversity of others by supporting social justice issues.
At Roxana Senior High School there are many opportunities for students to get involved in extracurricular activities.  These activities include:

  • Athletics

  • Performing Arts – Band, Choir, Drama

  • School Clubs & Organizations

We encourage and promote the notion of student involvement.  There is a positive correlation with a student’s involvement in school activities and their academic achievement, attendance and discipline.
We also provide initiatives that reward and acknowledge our students who are in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing:

RHS Zero Heroes

Universal quarterly rewards system used to reward and recognize students for exemplary behavior at RHS. Students who meet the attendance and discipline criteria will earn the reward held each quarter. The criteria to be eligible includes:  0 tardy referrals, 0 hours of unexcused absences, and 0 discipline infractions / referrals.

ROX Stars

Daily affirmations announced over the PA during morning announcements to students and staff who exhibit outstanding school citizenship by showing kindness, respect and/or service to others.  Recipients receive gift certificates to the Cafe de Shell.

Shells of the Month

School initiative sponsored by the Midwest Members Credit Union to acknowledge students for exemplary performance and school citizenship.  Recipients receive a gift card, certificate, recognition on credit union and school marquees.  Seniors become finalists for the Midwest Members Scholarship.

Social Probation

Students who accumulate 10 hours (class periods) of unexcused absences and/or 25 or more discipline points during the quarter, are prohibited from attending school dances and other school sponsored events/activities the following quarter.  4th quarter absences and points carry over to 1st quarter privileges of the following year.

Restorative Practices

is a powerful approach to discipline that focuses on repairing harm through inclusive processes that engage all stakeholders. Implemented well, Restorative Practices shift the focus of discipline from punishment to learning and from the individual to the community.

Zone Room

The Zone Room is a safe environment aimed at helping students de-escalate their emotions in order to return to the learning environment. While in the Zone, students are engaged in meaningful activities and are provided strategies to help them achieve the desired behavioral outcomes moving forward.
