Fifth Grade
WELCOME TO FIFTH GRADE!
Achieving Excellence with Passion, Pride, and
Partnership
Welcome to fifth grade! We believe that our students are going to accomplish some very important things this year. We will work together as a team to accomplish these goals:
In Math, we will focus on developing concepts learned in fourth grade as well as introducing some new concepts. Students will be assessed through guided and independent practice as well as formal tests. Our units include whole number operations/applications, decimals/fractions, measurement/data, and geometry.
In Language Arts, we will be developing concepts taught at lower grades including parts of speech, sentence structure, and variety in sentences. We will use formative and summative assessments. Students will work on Narrative, Informative, and Opinion writings. We will use a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts, award-winning children’s literature, and curriculum textbooks to support the learning standards. Students will be assessed in a variety of ways: vocabulary development, weekly and daily quizzes, projects, AR tests, and group assignments. Our units include adventure, survival, independence, and relationships.
We will be doing DARE lessons with Chief Cunningham.
